The City Of Plovdiv:
Bulgaria
Plovdiv is one of the oldest cities in Europe, it has been part of history for longer than Rome,
Constantinople or Athens.
With a population of just under 350,000, Plovdiv is the second largest city in Bulgaria after Sofia
, the Bulgarian capital.

Plovdiv is a busy city nestled in the middle of barren countryside that is partially used for
agricultural needs, it also has the Maritsa river meandering right through the heart of the city.
There are major landmarks that set Plovdiv apart from any other city, like the seven hills it is
surrounded by. Many that visit the city will question the amount of hills present as they will
probably only count six hills, this is because one of the hills was badly damaged and only
resembles a small mound today.
Due to Plovdiv having a long and illustrious history that even saw it conquered by Philip the
second of Macedon (Alexander the Greats father), there are many historical monuments from
as far back as the Thracian and Roman periods, like the impressive Roman amphitheatre.
