Bourgas:
Bulgaria
Bourgas is the second largest city to be located on the east coast of Bulgaria after the city of
Varna. With a population of roughly 200,000 Bourgas is also the fourth largest city by
population in Bulgaria.
Along with Varna, Bourgas is also one of the largest tourist attractions in the summer due to its
hot weather, beaches and its Sunny Beach complex of hotels, bars and restaurants.

The history of Bourgas is quite colourful as it was initially a Greek town by the name of Pirgos
thatw as founded by Apolonia colonists as a military post to observe other important
settlements as a protection method. In keeping with this military history the Ancient Romans
used Bourgas (which they called Deultum) as a resting area for military veterans.
Today Bourgas is the home of Bulgaria's largest, and most important port which serves as a
major source of economy for the region. Bourgas is also the home of many foreign consulates
from countries like Russia, Romania, Turkey, Belarus and Ukraine to name a few, and is the
only city beside the capital Sofia to have this honour.
