Bulgaria Air:
Bulgaria
Bulgaria Air is based in the Bulgarian capital city Sofia and is the national carrier of Bulgaria,
although it is owned by a parent company called Hemus Air, also a Bulgarian company.
Bulgaria Air is IATA and ICAO affiliated and has been designated the IATA code FB and ICAO
code LZB as well as the call sign Flying Bulgaria.

Bulgaria Air was founded in 2002 and was declared as the flagship carrier for the country by
the transport minister in November of this year. Bulgaria Air was formed due to the insolvency
of its predecessor Balkan Bulgarian Airlines.
Due to being given the status of Bulgaria's flagship airline carrier, Bulgaria Air was given the
ability to fly to some of the most profitable international destinations throughout Europe, Russia
and Israel.
The name Bulgaria Air and the logo it carries was designed by a member of the Bulgarian
public in a national competition, this logo and name has stayed with the company since the
competition finished and a winner announced.
Although Bulgaria Air started out in life as a public company owned by the Bulgarian
government it was sold in 2006 to Hemus Air and a union of other Bulgarian companies for six
million six hundred thousand euros.

Bulgaria Air has a large fleet of Boeing planes and has started increasing the destinations the
company flies to over the past twelve years. The company also enjoys having some of the best
qualified staff who give a service that many see as one of the best in the aviation industry.
