Bulgarian Language:
Bulgaria
The Bulgarian language is one of the Slavic languages that are found in south eastern Europe,
and use the Cyrillic alphabet.
Bulgaria initially used the Glagolitic alphabet, created by St. Cyril and his brother St. Methodius
in 855AD, but within one hundred years one of St. Methodius followers created the Cyrillic
alphabet by using the Greek alphabet as an influence.

Unlike the Latin alphabet which has only 26 letters, the Cyrillic alphabet has 30 letters. The
Cyrillic alphabet has some sounds that cannot be found in the Latin alphabet, while also
missing the Latin letters X and Q, and the sounds they create.
To help you understand the Cyrillic alphabet used in the Bulgarian language, we have written a
guide on how you pronounce each letter correctly.
