The Ogosta River starts off its life nine hundred and thirty five metres up in the Vrazha Glava
peak on the border between Bulgaria and Serbia.

The Ogosta river has forty tributaries in total that helps to keep its total watershed to around
three thousand one hundred and fifty seven square kilometres.
The Ogosta river flows for one hundred and forty seven kilometres through Bulgaria before
joining the river
Danube as on of its tributaries.

Throughout its journey the Ogosta River makes up an important part of many towns and villages
where settlements from ancient times flourished due to the flowing water. Today three of the
most well known towns to be situated on the rivers banks are
Montana, Chiprovtsi and Miziya.

In its watershed the Ogosta river has fourteen irrigation systems, thirteen dams and eight
hydropower plants, the Ogosta river is also used for domestic consumption for those living on
its banks.
