Razgrad is a city is located in the province of Razgrad found in north east Bulgaria very close
to the border of Romania. Razgrad has a total population of forty thousand civilians (estimated
2005).

Razgrad has six sister cities internationally, these are Oryol in Russia, Wittenberge in
Germany, Armagh in Northern Ireland, Chalons en Champagne in France, Avcilar in Turkey,
Yangzhou in China and Brunswick in Ohio the United States of America.
Razgrad is not an old city compared to other Bulgarian cities and towns as it dates back to the
time of the Romans two thousand year ago. Razgrad was an ancient town called Arbritus
during the Roman period and has historical importance as the battlefield of the battle of
Arbrittus in two hundred and fifty one AD when the invading Goths crushed the army of the
Roman Emperors Trajan Decius and Herrennius Etruscus.

What makes this battle even more historically important is that it was the first time that any
Roman Emporer was killed in battle with people classed as Barbarians.
Razgrad has one of the largest Turkish contingents in the whole of Bulgaria with the Turkish
civilians making up twenty seven percent of the overall population of the city.

Razgrad is not seen as a place where tourists visit and it is rare to see people from foreign
lands besides neighbouring countries in the city, this may be due to the fact that there is no real
tourist attraction in the city compared to its larger neighbouring cities and provinces like
Rousse
and Veliko Tarnovo. Razgrad does has some beautiful nineteenth century buildings
