Religion In Bulgaria:
Bulgaria
It is believed that at least 83% of Bulgarians are associated with the Bulgarian Orthodox
Church, which is part of Eastern Orthodox Christianity. The Bulgarian Orthodox Church was
founded in the year 870 AD under the authorisation of Constantinople.
Throughout Bulgaria's history the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, like the rest of Bulgaria has been
under the rule of invading forces, like the Byzantine and Ottoman empires.

Even though invading forces have taken control of the people, trying to convert them to other
religions, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church was seen as a beacon of hope by many, and this is
the reason why it is the main religion in Bulgaria today.
There are three other religions practised within Bulgaria, these are Islam, Roman Catholicism
and Protestantism, although they only make up a small percentage of the population.
The monasteries of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church found within Bulgaria are held in high
regard through out many nations as they hold many significant religious artifacts.
The most famous monasteries and churches in Bulgaria are the Church of Christ Pantocrator,
the Rila Monastery and the Bachkovo Monastery.
