The Erma River is a small river compared to others that reside in Bulgaria, at only seventy four
kilometres long and only a portion of this being in Bulgaria some may class this river as
insignificant but nothing could be further from the truth.

The Erma river starts of life at its source in Serbia before it travels in to Bulgaria then
meanders back in to Serbia then returns back in to Bulgaria again.
The first time that the Erma River enters Bulgaria is near the small village of Tran on the
eastern side of a mountain called Ruy. At Tran the Erma River forms a spectacular view as it
cuts through a famous gorge that is called Transko Zhdrelo which translates as the Gorge of
Tran (see picture below).

At this point the river flows north and back in to Serbia again where it started its life, the river
does not stay in Serbia for long though as meanders back in to Bulgaria at the Bulgarian
village of Bankya in the Province of
Pernik.
After a short time back in Bulgarian territories the River Erma then flows back in to Serbia
where it empties in to the river Nishava, another river that flows through Bulgaria and Serbia.

Besides travelling through Tran the River Erma only flows through countryside and small
villages for the rest of its life in Bulgaria, due to this it makes some beautiful landscape views
as it flows through mountains, valleys and plains.
